捨てる

＊throw … away[out]　捨てる。物理的なゴミを捨てるときに使う。
→I’ll throw this away for you.
　これ、捨てておくね。
→Can you throw out the trash?
　ゴミを出してくれる？

＊litter …　ゴミを捨てる。特に無作法に、散らかすように捨てるイメージ。ポイ捨てにはこの言葉を使う。
→People barely litter the streets here.
　ここはポイ捨てをする人がとても少ないね。
→Don’t litter the room.
　部屋をゴミでいっぱいにしないで。

＊get rid of　「なくす」。必ずしも「捨てる」という意味とは限らず、痛みなどを「取り除く」という時にも使える。
→I wish I could get rid of this pain.
　この痛みを取り除くことができたらいいのに。
→Why did you get rid of your old computer?
　どうして前のパソコンを捨てちゃったの？

＊part with …　～を捨てる。捨てたくない、価値のあるものや思い入れのあるものを処分するというニュアンスがある。
→I don’t want to part with the toys.
　おもちゃを捨てたくないの。
→He parted with his car to pay for his rent.
　彼は家賃を払うために車を処分した。
