迎える

＊welcome …　迎える。単純に迎えるというより、歓迎するニュアンスがある。人のみならず、考えや伝統など概念的なものにも使える。
→The country welcomed immigrants.
国は移民を歓迎した。
→We’re welcoming new ideas!
私たちは新しい案を歓迎しているよ！

＊greet …　人に挨拶する、あるいは人に挨拶をして迎えるときに使う。
→I greeted him at the door.
私は玄関で彼に挨拶をした。
→We greeted each other.
私たちはお互いに挨拶をした。

＊receive …　迎え入れる。特に正式、公式の場で人を迎え入れるときに使う。
→The prime minister received many guests.
首相は多くの客を迎え入れた。

（時期を）迎える

＊see/observe …　〜を迎える。とある事象が起きているときに使うが、やや文語寄り。
→Japan is seeing/observing an increase in international tourists.
訪日観光客が増加している。
→Researchers are seeing/observing a rapid decline in the number of Adelie penguins.
研究者たちはアデリーペンギンの数の急速な減少を確認している。

＊reach …　〜に達する。特定の時期、または時期に左右されるイベントが起きるときに使う。良いことにも悪いことにも使う。
→Japan reached the first COVID peak in 2020.
日本は最初のコロナのピークを2020年に迎えた。
→When will the season reach its peak?
シーズンがピークを迎えるのはいつ？
→The number of international tourists reached a peak.
　訪日観光客がピークに達した。
