小さくする

＊make … smaller　〜を小さくする。体積、面積など大きさを小さくする。
→Can you make the font smaller?
　フォントをもっと小さくできる？
→How can I get smaller lips?
　どうすれば唇を縮小できるだろう？

＊reduce …　「減らす」。人員や可能性など、数値に変換できるものを減らすイメージ。
→We need to reduce the number of employees.
　社員数を減らす必要がある。
→How can we reduce the risk of getting the coronavirus?
　どうすればコロナに罹患するリスクを減らせるだろう？

弱る、弱まる

＊get/become weak　弱る。口語でよく使う。
→The economy is getting weaker.
　経済が弱まってきている。
→I’ve become mentally weaker.
　私は精神的に弱くなった。

＊weaken　意思、（物の）硬さ、人などありとあらゆるものが弱るときに使える。
→The soldiers are weakening.
　兵士たちが弱まってきている。
→I think this component weakened.
　この部品、弱くなっちゃったみたい。

＊decline 　衰退する。経済やものの質など、触れることのできないものが弱まっていくイメージ。
→China’s population is declining.
　中国の人口が減ってきている。
→I’m afraid the value will decline.
　価値が下がることを懸念している。

＊decrease　量が小さくなる（減る）時に使う。自分の意思と関係なく減るイメージ。
→The population is decreasing in the suburbs.
　地方では人口が減っている。
→The company’s revenue decreased sharply.
　会社の収益が著しく減った。
