加速する、加速させる

＊speed up　加速する。加速させる。accelerateと比べてややカジュアル。
→The car sped up after the first corner.
　最初のコーナーの後車は加速した。
→The UK is seeking to speed up deportation of illegal immigrants.
　英国は不法移民の強制送還の迅速化を目指している。

＊accelerate　加速する。加速させる。speed upと比べてややフォーマル。法的文書などではこちらを使用する。
→The car accelerated after the first corner.
　最初のコーナーの後車は加速した。
→G7 ministers agreed to accelerate phase-out of fossil fuels.
　G7の閣僚たちは、化石燃料の段階的廃止を加速させることに合意した。

促進する

＊prompt …　促す、促進する（させる）。
→The government hopes casinos will prompt Japan’s economic growth.
　政府はカジノが日本の経済成長をうながすことを願っている。
→The war prompted a wave of refugees to flee the country.
　戦争の結果、多くの人々がその国を難民として逃れることになった。

＊urge …　促す、促進する。promptと比べて緊急性が高い。
→The war urged a wave of refugees to flee the country.
　戦争の結果、多くの人々がその国を難民として（すぐさま）逃れることになった。（逃れる緊急性がpromptと比べて高い）
→Japanese LGBTQ activists urged government to enact an anti-discrimination law.
　日本のLGBTQ活動家たちは、差別禁止法の制定を政府に強く促した。

減速させる

＊slow down[up]　減速する、させる。速度の他、売り上げなどにも使える。
→Sales tend to slow down/up around the time of the year.
　毎年この時期は売り上げが落ちるね。
→The car slowed down/up and stopped beside us.
　車が減速して私たちの横に止まった。
