弔う

＊mourn …　弔う。人の死を悲しみ、悼むときにも使う。
→The bereaved family mourned for the victim.
遺族たちは犠牲者を弔った。
→Russia is also mourning the loss of its soldiers.
ロシアも兵士たちの犠牲を傷んでいる。

お悔やみ申し上げる

＊offer[express] condolences　お悔やみを申し上げる。弔辞や公式の場でお悔やみを申し上げるときは使うが、友達間などフランクな場面では使わない。
→We offer our condolences for his death.
彼の死に際し、お悔やみ申し上げます。
→I express my sincere condolences.
謹んでお悔やみ申し上げます。

＊be sorry for …　〜を申し訳なく思う、かわいそうに思う。forの後にはlossやdeathなどが続く。
→I’m terribly sorry for your loss.
謹んでお悔やみ申し上げます。
→We’re sorry for his passing.
彼の逝去に際し、お悔やみ申し上げます。
