塗る

＊put … on　〜を塗る。薬やクリーム、バター等幅広く使える。
→Can I put butter on the bread?
　パンにバターを塗ってもいい？
→Where do I put this cream on?
　このクリームはどこに塗れば良いの？

＊paint …　塗る。特にペンキや絵具等を使って何かを塗るときに使う。
→Let’s paint the walls.
　壁を塗ろう。
→Did you paint the door?
　ドアを（ペンキで）塗った？

＊color …　色付ける、色付く。色鉛筆やマーカー、ソフトなど使う用具を問わない。
→Why did you color her hair like that?
　どうして彼女の髪色をそれにしたの？
→Let’s color this together.
　一緒に色を塗ろう。

＊apply …　塗る。薬やクリームを顔につけるときはこちらを使う。
→Please apply this ointment two times a day.
　この軟膏は1日2回塗布してください。
→You should apply this face cream everyday.
　このクリームを毎日顔に塗ったほうがいいよ。

＊rub …　擦る。何かを塗り込むときにも使う。
→You can rub this cream on to your skin.
　このクリームを肌に塗り込むといいよ。
→Please rub the butter into the flour.
　小麦粉にバターを擦り付けて（塗り込んで）。

＊spread …　塗り、広げる。均等に何かを塗り込むときに使う。パンにバターを塗る等、食べ物の話をするときはこの言葉を使う。
→Can I spread the butter on the bread?
　パンにバターを塗ってもいい？
→Did you spread the jam on this croissant?
　クロワッサンにジャムを塗ったのはあなた？

＊plaster …　漆喰、石膏を塗る。
→The walls are plastered.
　壁は漆喰が塗られている。
