探す

＊look for …　〜を探す。物理的なもの、概念的なものどちらにも使える。
→What/who are you looking for?
　何・誰を探しているの？
→I’m looking for my keys.
　鍵を探しているの。

＊search for …　〜を探す。look forと比べると探す本気度が高い。
→They are searching for the missing local.
　彼らは行方不明となっている地元人を探している。
→The search for the cure of Alzheimer continues.
　アルツハイマーの治療法はまだ模索されている。

＊try to find …　〜を見つけようと試みる、探す。look forより本気度が高いように聞こえる。物理的なもの、概念的なものどちらにも使える。
→I’m trying to find my keys.
　鍵を探しているの。
→Are you still trying to find the “one"?
　まだ運命の人を探しているの？
→Try to find it, it’s not hard.
　探してみなよ、難しくないから。

＊seek …　探す、求める。ややかたい。物理的ではないものを探し求めるときに使うことが多い。
→Are you seeking a job?
　仕事を探しているの？
→I’d like to seek your advice.
　あなたのアドバイスが欲しくて。
