不足している

＊don’t have enough AA　AAが足りていない。カジュアルでよく使う。
→I don’t have enough social energy to go out.
　外出するためのエネルギーが足りない。
→We didn’t have enough rain this year.
　今年は雨不足だった。
→I don’t think there’s enough salt in this.
　これは塩が足りないんじゃないかな。

＊(be) lack of AA　AAが不足している。
→The accident happened due to lack of attention.
　事故は注意不足により起こった。
→The lack of consumer support is almost disgraceful.
　カスタマーサポートの欠如は恥ずべきくらいだ。

＊(be[run]) short of AA　AAが不足している。ややオフィシャル。
→We’re so short of manpower.
　私たちは本当に人手が足りていない。
→I’m sorry, I’m in short of cash right now.
　ごめん、今現金が足りないんだ。

(期待などに）達しない

＊fall(be) short of AA　AAに達さない、AAに足りない。
→He fell so incredibly short of our expectations.
　彼は私たちの期待をはるかに下回った。
→Their sales were short of analyst’s estimates.
　彼らの売り上げは解析者たちの見積もりに達さなかった。
