まとめる、一つにする、統一する

＊unify …　一つにする。
→When was Korea first unified?
　韓国が初めて統一されたのはいつ？
→Sports can unify people.
　スポーツは人々を一つにする。

（考えを）まとめる、決める

＊put one’s thoughts together　ごちゃごちゃに散らかった考えを一つにまとめるイメージ。
→I need to put my thoughts together.
　考えをまとめなきゃ。

＊bring … to a conclusion　結論を出す、考えをまとめる。よく使える。
→How can we bring this to a positive conclusion?
　どうすればこれを前向きにまとめられるだろう？
→This brings us to a conclusion that at least 10 people went missing.
　この結果で分かるのが、少なくとも10人が消息不明だということ。

＊conclude　結論を出す。ややかたいが、「結論を出した」という言い方をしたいときに使える。
→I concluded that he was dangerous.
　私は彼が危険な男だと結論づけた。

要点をまとめる

＊summarize …　要約する。一番無難。
→Can you summarize the story for me?
　話を要約してくれない？
→How am I supposed to summarize a 7000-word essay?
　どうやって7千文字のエッセイを要約すればいいんだ？

＊sum up …　要約する。summarizeと比べカジュアル。
→Let’s sum this up.
　さあ、まとめに入ろう。
→To sum it up…
