電話をする

＊give … a call 〜に電話してみる。
→Let’s give him a call.
彼に電話してみようか。
→Why don’t you give them call?
どうして電話してみないの？

＊call … 〜に電話する。
→Did you call me?
電話した？

電話に出る、電話を取る

＊answer/pick up （the phone） 電話をとる、電話に出る。
→Can you please answer/pick up the phone?
電話に出てくれない？
→I’m sorry I couldn’t pick up (the phone) earlier.
先ほどは電話に出られなくてごめんなさい。

電話を切る

＊hang up 電話を切る。
→Did you hang up on me?
今電話を切った？
→I accidentally hung up.
間違えて電話を切っちゃった。

待つ

＊wait 待つ。あらゆるシーンで使える。無難。
→Sorry for making you wait.
待たせてごめんね。
→I hate waiting for people.
人を待つのは嫌いなんだ。

＊hold/hang on 待つ。waitに比べるとカジュアルで、口語でよく使う。「ちょっと待って」と相手に呼びかける文脈で特によく使う。
→Hang on, I forgot the keys.
待って、鍵を忘れちゃった。
→Hold on, lemme call you back.
ちょっと待って、かけ直すね。
