気を付ける

＊be careful with …　〜に気を付ける。
→Be careful! You’re stepping on my skirt.
気を付けて！スカートを踏んでいるよ。
→We have to be careful with how to handle this.
この取り扱いには注意しなきゃね。

＊pay attention to …　〜に注意を払う。一番無難。よく使う。聴覚に限らず、視覚的に「注意を払う」ときにも使う。
→Pay attention already!
いい加減ちゃんと注意をしてよ！
→You should pay attention to your teacher.
先生の言うことを聞きなさい。

＊watch out for …　〜警戒する、〜気を付ける。
→Watch out for the heat!
暑さに気をつけて！
→You should watch out for scams.
詐欺に気を付けなくてはいけないよ。

＊look out for …　周りをよく見渡して、何かに気を付けたり、見つけたりするイメージ。
→Here are the things you should look out for this weekend.
今週末チェックするべきのはこれです。
→We were told to look out for a blue car.
青い車に気を付けろと言われた。

＊listen carefully to …　〜を「よく聞く」。聴覚的にのみ注意を払うイメージ。
→Listen carefully to what I say.
私が言うことをよく聞いて。
→You have to listen carefully to your teacher.
先生の言うことはよく聞いて。

気にする

＊mind …　～を気にする、気に掛ける。「ドンマイ」はここから来ている。Do you mind if…で、「〜しても良い？」という表現になる。
→Do you mind me sitting here?
ここに座ってもいい？
→Don’t you mind.
気にしないでいいよ。
→Mind the steps!
