点ける

＊turn … on　〜を点ける。電化製品のスイッチをオンにする、また電気をつけるときに使う。
→Can you turn on the light?
　電気をつけてくれる？
→Don’t turn on the TV, the baby’s asleep.
　テレビをつけないで、赤ちゃんが寝ているから。

＊switch … on　〜を点ける。スイッチがあるとき、すなわちスイッチの切り替えがあるときに使える。(ボタンのようなものを押すイメージ。)
→Can you switch on the light?
　電気をつけてくれる？
→Let’s switch on the computer.
　パソコンを立ち上げよう。

立ち上げる

＊start … up　立ち上げる。車やパソコンなど、機械で「立ち上げる」ものに幅広く使える。
→Did you hear the car start up?
　車が立ち上がる音、聞こえた？
→Start up the engine.
　エンジンを立ち上げて。

＊boot … up　立ち上げる。パソコンを立ち上げるときに使う。
→Can you boot up the computer?
　パソコンを立ち上げてくれる？
→I’m having troubles booting up my computer.
　パソコンが立ち上がらないんだ。

再起動する

＊reboot …　再起動する。システムやパソコンを再起動するときに使う。
→Did you try rebooting your computer?
　パソコンを再起動してみた？
→You have to reboot the system.
　システムを再起動しなきゃ。
