広げる

＊spread …　広げる。ウィルスや噂など形のないものも含まれる。
→Please spread the word!

　パンにバターを塗る？

＊lay … out　物理的に何かを広げる。配置させる。レイアウトする。
→The designer laid out the book with pictures on every page.
　デザイナーは、本の全てのページに絵をレイアウトした。

＊widen …　広げる。何かの幅を広げるイメージ。
→The gap is widening each year.
　ギャップ（物理的な溝、あるいは格差など）は毎年広がってきている。
→Was this road widened?
　この道、広げられたの？

＊broaden …　広げる。教育や機会など、物理的に触れることのできない、概念的なものにも使える。
→How can we broaden education benefits?
　どうすれば教育の利益を広げられるだろう？
→Can we broaden their opportunities?
　彼らの機会（チャンス）を広げることはできるだろうか？

拡大する

＊spread …「広範囲に」広がり、また広がる対象のものが広範囲の中であちこちらで見受けられるようになるイメージ。ウィルスや噂など、形のないものも含める。
→The novel coronavirus has spread all over the world.
　コロナは世界中に広がった。
→The rumor spread all around the school.
　学校中で噂が広まった。

＊expand …　面積、大きさ、数、重要性などが「広がる」あるいは「大きくなる」イメージ。
→The economy expanded rapidly.
　経済は急激に成長した。
→How do you expand your network?
　あなたはどうやってコネを繋げるの？

＊extend …　「長さ」を延長するイメージ。ものが「のびる」イメージ。
→How can we extend our brand?
　私たちはどうすれば私たちのブランドを展開できるだろう？
→Can you extend your arm?
　腕を伸ばせる？

＊enlarge …　物理的に「大きくする」イメージ。
→Can you enlarge the image?
　画像を拡大できる？
→You can’t enlarge this picture a little more?
　この画像、もうちょっと大きくできないの？
