過ごす

＊spend time　時間を過ごす。
→I like spending time with you.
　あなたと時間を一緒に過ごすのが好きだ。
→I think I spend too much time dwelling on the past.
　私は過去のことをぐずぐず考えて過ごす時間が多すぎる。

＊hang out　一緒に時間を過ごす、会う、遊ぶ。playだと幼いが、hang outは会って共に時間を過ごして何かをするというニュアンスがある。
→We hung out over the weekend.
　週末は一緒に時間を過ごしたよ。
→We never hang out (with each other) anymore.
　もうすっかり会わなくなったんだ。

油を売る、のらくら過ごす

＊idle　だらだらする、怠ける。特に何もしないで時間をダラダラ過ごすことを指す。エンジンのアイドリングはこの言葉から来ている。
→Can you please stop idling?
　ダラダラしないでくれる？
→Why are they idling outside that shop?
　どうして彼らは店の前でダラダラしているんだ？
