生きる、暮らす

＊live … (in) 〜に暮らす、生活をする、住む。inがつかないと生きているという意味になる。
→Where do you live?
あなたはどこに住んでいるの？
→He lived until his 90s.
彼は９０代まで生きていた。

生き残る

＊survive … 生き残る。自己や事件などを生き延びるときに使う。
→She survived the tsunami.
彼女は津波の生存者だ。
→I can’t believe they survived the war.
彼らが戦争を生き延びられたのが信じられない。

長生きする

＊live (longer …) 長生きする。誰かと比べて長く生きるときに使う。
→Women tend to live longer than men.
女性の方が男性より長く生きる傾向にある。
→No parent wants to live longer than his or her child.
子どもの死に目にあいたい親などいない。

＊outlive 長生きする。誰かと比べて長く生きるときに使う。live longerと比べてややフォーマル、あるいは文語寄り。
→Women tend to outlive men.
女性の方が男性より長く生きる傾向にある。
→No parent wants to outlive his or her child.
子どもの死に目にあいたい親などいない。
