切る

＊cut … 切る。無難でよく使える。切る対象、深さや角度、大きさ等は問わない。
→Can you cut the vegetables?
野菜を切ってくれる？
→She used to cut herself hair.
彼女は昔自分で髪を切っていた。

＊slice … 切る。薄く切る。切る対象は問わない。
→Let’s slice the onion first.
最初に玉ねぎを(薄く)切ろう。

＊hash … 野菜や肉などを細かく切る。ハッシュドポテトの「ハッシュド」はこの単語からきている。
→Would you wanna hash the potatoes for us?
じゃがいもを細かく切ってくれない？
→The blade sliced into his hands.
彼の手に刃が切り込んだ。

＊chop … 大きめに切る。切る対象は問わない。
→Let’s chop these apples.
りんごを細かく切ろう。
→Please chop up the woods.
木を切ってくれ。

刈る

＊mow …　草を刈る
→Can you mow the lawn?
草を刈ってもらえる？

＊trim …　刈る、切る。ちょっとだけ切るイメージ。
→Can you trim my hair?
　髪を少し切ってもらえる？
→I think you need a trim.
髪をちょっと切った方がいいと思うよ。

剃る

＊shave … 剃る。
→Why do professional swimmers shave off their body hair?
どうしてプロの水泳選手は体毛を剃るの？
→I have to shave.
剃らなきゃ。

彫る

＊carve …　彫る。
→Do you want to carve pumpkins?
かぼちゃの彫りたい？
→He carved this out of wood!
彼はこれを木から掘ったんだよ！
