捕まえる

＊catch …　捕まえる、とらえる。物理的なものにも、概念的なものにも使える。風邪やコロナに罹患するときにも使える。
→We caught fireflies last night.
　昨晩蛍をとりに行ったよ。
→I think I caught a cold.
　風邪をひいちゃったみたい。

＊capture …

　catchよりも力ずくでとらえるイメージ。また、心など概念的なものを「捉える」ときにも使える。
→The novel captured the hearts of young readers.
　小説は若き読者の心をつかんだ。
→Police captured the suspect.
　警察は容疑者を捕まえた。

＊arrest …　逮捕する。
→The suspect was immediately arrested after the shooting.
　銃撃の後、容疑者はすぐさま逮捕された。
→Why did they fail to arrest her?
　どうして彼らは彼女を逮捕できなかったんだ？
