奪う、奪い取る

＊take AA away (from BB) BB（人物）からAA（物）を取る、取り除く。無理矢理奪うというニュアンスはない。
→These pills are supposed to take away the pain.
この薬は痛みを取り除くはずだ。
→Can you take away the toys from the kids?
子どもたちからおもちゃを取り上げてくれる？

＊rob … 盗む。盗みの被害者や、盗みが行われる場所に焦点が当たっているイメージ。ぼったくるという意味でも使われる。
→The man was arrested for robbing a bank.
男性は銀行強盗で逮捕された。
→They robbed the company of 10 million yen.
彼らは会社から１０００万円盗んだ。
→That’s too expensive, I’m sure you were robbed.
高すぎるよ。ぼられたんじゃない？

＊steal … 盗む。誰かの所有物を盗む。盗まれる「もの」に焦点が当たっているイメージ。
→They stole my bike!
自転車を盗まれた！
→Stealing should not be tolerated.
盗みは許されるべきではない。

＊deprive AA of BB BB（人物）からAA（物：概念的なもの）を奪う。
→High temperatures are depriving people of sleep.
高気温が人々の睡眠を奪っている。
→The pandemic deprived people of jobs.
パンデミックが人々の仕事を奪った。

＊strip AA of BB BB（人物）からAA（物：概念的なもの）を奪う。公平ではないやり方で奪うとき、または罰として奪うときに使う。
→The athlete was stripped of her gold medal.
選手は、金メダル（という名誉）を没収された。
→The employees might be stripped of their pensions.
会社員たちは、年金を払われない可能性がある。

＊seize …　手荒に（物理的なものを）掴み取る他に、場所や支配権など概念的なものを「奪取する」ときにも使える。
→He seized the gun from her.
　彼は彼女から銃を奪いとった。
→Russia is trying to seize Luhansk.
　ロシアはルガンスク州を制圧しようとしている。

＊fight over AA AAをめぐって喧嘩する。
→The two countries have been fighting over land for a long time.
その二国は、土地をめぐって長い間たたかってきている。
→The kids are fighting over a toy.
子どもたちはおもちゃをめぐって喧嘩している。
